April 14, 2009 — Charlottesville's senior citizens, low-income families and disabled residents benefitted April 4 from the generosity of students from the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.

More than 200 Darden students built playgrounds and repaired local homes during "Building Goodness in April," an annual event during which students work to better the community.

Thanks to the students, the playgrounds in the Southwood Mobile Home Park feature new swings, slides and benches. Meanwhile, seven homes in Charlottesville and Albemarle County received much-needed renovations.

Building Goodness in April, a partnership between Darden students and the Building Goodness Foundation, is a yearlong event that includes holding auctions, securing donations from corporations and working with the city of Charlottesville to obtain funds from a community development block grant. The fundraising activity leads to the day when the work is done.

Darden students have been involved in the project since 1991.
