April 10, 2012 — The University of Virginia is hosting a Stanford University expert on eastern European history Thursday and Friday for two free talks about ethnic cleansing.

Norman Naimark, Robert and Florence McDonnell Professor in East European History and a senior fellow at Stanford's Hoover Institution & Institute of International Studies, will discuss "Stalin's Genocides," Thursday at 4 p.m. in Nau Hall, room 101.

Friday, Naimark will discuss "Ethnic Cleansing in Modern Europe," at 11:30 p.m. in Nau Hall, room 211.

Both events will be followed by an open discussion and a reception.

They are sponsored by U.Va.'s Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies, and the Corcoran Department of History in the College of Arts & Sciences; the Center for International Studies; and the Page-Barbour Initiative on Forced Migration.

The Page-Barbour Lectures were founded in 1907 by Mrs. Thomas Nelson Page and may feature lectures in any field in the arts and sciences.
