Filmmakers Invited to Submit Work for 25th Anniversary Virginia Film Festival

June 6, 2012 — The Virginia Film Festival has issued a call for entries, inviting filmmakers to submit feature films, documentaries, shorts, animation and experimental works for consideration for its upcoming 25th anniversary year.

The 2012 festival is scheduled for Nov. 1-4 in Charlottesville. It is presented by the University of Virginia's College of Arts & Sciences.

"We are very excited to launch this year's call for entries, particularly after the extraordinary response we received from filmmakers over the past few years," festival director Jody Kielbasa said. "We have been continually impressed by not only the quantity, but by the quality of films we have received, including many from right here in Virginia. This speaks to what we feel is a growing artistic footprint for the festival, and is critical to our efforts to showcase the work of new and exciting filmmakers year after year."

Once again, the festival will waive the submission fee for Virginia filmmakers and students. Submission fees for all others range from $10 to $50.

"There is no doubt that Virginia is making a name for itself in the filmmaking world in recent years, and I have certainly been impressed by the quality of the films and filmmakers I have had the pleasure to work with," Kielbasa said.

The entry deadline is Aug. 3, with an extended deadline of Aug. 31, which carries a higher entry fee. Filmmakers accepted into the festival will be notified by Sept. 28.

All accepted films will be eligible for Audience Awards and Programmer's Choice Awards. Documentary works will compete for the opportunity to be shown on SnagFilms.com.

All submissions must be mailed to Wesley Harris, Virginia Film Festival, P.O. Box 400869, Charlottesville, VA 22904.
