Melody Bianchetto, associate vice president for finance at the University of Virginia, has been selected to receive the 2014 Rising Star Award from the National Association of College and University Business Officers. She will be recognized at the annual meeting on July 20 in Seattle.

The NACUBO Rising Star Award identifies future leaders in higher education – up-and-coming individuals in the areas of finance, administration and business known for their innovative, meaningful contributions to the improvement of their profession and the efficiency of their institution.

Bianchetto, a certified public accountant, was named associate vice president for finance in 2013. She oversees the functions of financial administration, research administration, and student financial services. In addition, she is sponsoring the effort to improve managerial reporting and co-leading the implementation of the new University Financial Model.

Bianchetto began her career at Ernst & Young in Washington, D.C. and joined U.Va. as a senior budget analyst in 1996. In 1998 she became the director of the budget and in 2006 was named assistant vice president for budget and financial planning before assuming her current position.

“This is a very prestigious award and we are very proud of her accomplishments,” said Patrick D. Hogan, executive vice president and chief operating officer.
