Fralin Museum of Art at U.Va. to Host Special Lecture on American Studio Glass

Tina Oldknow, curator of modern glass at The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, N.Y., will give a special lecture at The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia, titled “50 Years of American Studio Glass: A Celebration.” The lecture will be held Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Campbell Hall, room 153.

Oldknow will discuss the genesis of the American studio glass movement in the 1960s and present a wide-ranging survey of work in contemporary glass up to the present.

She has been the curator of modern glass at the Corning Museum since 2000, responsible for all curatorial aspects of the glass collections dating from 1900 to the present. During her time there, she has reinstalled the Modern Glass and Contemporary Glass Galleries, and curated many exhibitions.

Oldknow holds a B.A. in art history from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an M.A. in art history from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. A trustee of the American Craft Council from 2003 to 2009, she presently serves on the advisory board of North Lands Creative Glass in Caithness, Scotland, and is a member of the International Council of Pilchuck Glass School.
