Nurses and doctors will be on hand July 26, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Charlottesville’s Booker T. Washington Park for the annual Charlottesville Community Health Fair, held in conjunction with the 25th Annual African-American Cultural Arts Festival.
Caregivers will be checking visitors for a range of health factors, including blood pressure, body mass index, diabetes, peripheral artery disease, vision and hearing and kidney disease testing – all free of charge.
The University of Virginia Health System and U.Va.’s Office of the Vice President and Chief Officer for Diversity and Equity are partnering with Martha Jefferson Hospital and the Virginia Department of Health to offer the health fair.
Mammograms will be offered, but must be scheduled in advance. Call 434-924-1555. Those with health insurance must bring their insurance cards, and programs are available to cover the cost of mammograms for women without health insurance. Women must be at least 40 years of age and have no prior breast problems.
Scholastic sports physicals will also be offered, but must be scheduled in advance by calling 434-243-2079. Physical forms are available online.
Information will also be available on numerous health topics, including aging, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, heart disease, stroke, prostate disease, poison prevention and nutrition.
