April 17, 2012 — Immigration, diversity and the League of Human Rights in France will be the topic of a free seminar today at the University of Virginia's Center for International Studies.

The director of the University's Institute for Environmental Negotiation, Frank Dukes, will discuss the role of the league, a non-governmental organization, at 5 p.m. in Hotel A, One West Range, as part of the center's spring seminar series, "What's Wrong with Europe?"

France's League of Human Rights has been critical of the conservative government of French President Nicolas Sarzoky for deporting illegal Roma gypsies and banning women from wearing full-veil burqas in public. France is holding presidential elections April 22.

The seminar series concludes April 25, when the topic will be "Secular Europe Revisited," presented by Slavica Jakelic, a fellow with the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture from the Department of Religious Studies. Her talk will also take place at 5 p.m. in Hotel A.
