MEDIA ADVISORY: Reception for U.Va. Study Abroad Participants

WHAT:    U.Va. Study Abroad Program Welcome Back Reception. Event will include 150 U.Va. students just back from study abroad programs, with opening remarks by U.Va. International Studies Office administrators. Food and beverages will be provided. Students and U.Va. officials will be available for interviews. 

WHEN:    6 to 8 p.m., Wed., Sept. 5

WHERE:    U.Va. International Center, 21 University Circle (near Rugby Road), Charlottesville

WHO:    Students who have participated in Study Abroad programs offered by the University of Virginia. U.Va. faculty and program advisers also will be present. Speakers will include Study Abroad program advisers Chris Payne, Tim Wojoski, Stacey Hansen and Mary Jo Bateman.

WHY:    To recognize the more than 1,900 U.Va. students who participated in the University’s international education experiences in more than 50 countries last year.

BACKGROUND:
The University of Virginia International Studies Office will host a reception on Wed., Sept. 5, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. at the International Center, 21 University Circle, Charlottesville.

The reception will welcome back U.Va. students who participated in a variety of study abroad programs during the spring or summer of 2007. Students will be available to media to discuss their experiences.

During the 2006-2007 academic year, more than 1,900 students participated in international educational experiences in more than 50 countries. U.Va. offers study abroad programs in Ghana, Belize, Costa Rica, South Africa, Morocco, Jordan, Peru, China, the United Kingdom, Spain, France and Denmark, among others. It also offered the first Latin American voyage of Semester at Sea this summer.
