May 5, 2009 — The University of Virginia Center for International Studies and the Office of the Vice Provost for International Programs have announced a number of globally focused funding opportunities for faculty.

"These funding opportunities are designed to support faculty efforts in providing a breadth of international/global perspectives and opportunities for students and colleagues," said Gowher Rizvi, vice provost for international programs.

These funding opportunities include:

•    Faculty Curriculum Development/Enhancement Grants – to provide funds for faculty members who are developing new courses with a significant international/global perspective, or who are seeking to reinvigorate existing courses with an infusion of global perspectives.

•    Visiting International Scholar Grants – to provide financial assistance to departments and faculty who seek to bring eminent scholars for multi-day visits to the University for the purpose of teaching courses and/or presenting lectures that are open to the University community.

•    New Education Abroad Grant Program – to develop education abroad programs in areas where the University does not have programs and which are of strategic importance to the University: Brazil, West Africa, East Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, China and Eastern Europe/Russia.

•    Distinguished International Fellowships – to sponsor semester-long Distinguished International Fellows.

The deadline for submission of completed applications for the current cycle is June 8. Funding decisions will be made no later than the end of June.
