European supporters of the University of Virginia have a new, tax-advantaged way to donate to U.Va.

The European Friends of the University of Virginia Fund, based at Brussels’ King Baudouin Foundation, allows European parents, friends and alumni of U.Va. to make a tax-advantaged gift from their home countries for the first time.

There are nearly 2,000 U.Va. alumni currently residing in Europe

Gifts can support a range of student and faculty initiatives that strengthen U.Va.’s ties with Europe, including study abroad, internships, scholarships, travel, research and teaching.

Under terms of the agreement with the foundation, gifts may not be earmarked by donors, but will fund student and faculty proposals selected by Vice Provost for Global Affairs Jeffrey W. Legro. More information about the selection process will be forthcoming.

The King Baudouin Foundation is a member of Transnational Giving Europe, a partnership of leading European foundations and associations that facilitates tax-advantaged, cross-border giving within Europe. The organization assures donors – and tax authorities – that gifts reach their intended charitable destinations and that donors receive the beneficial tax treatment they deserve. The 17 countries currently participating in the new gift arrangement are: Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
