In the Rankings: U.Va. Gets High Marks from Variety of Publications

College rankings have been around for a while – more than a century, according to a recent edition of the “BackStory with the American History Guys” public radio show – and it sometimes seems they are more prevalent than ever.

This has been a particularly noteworthy week in the rankings for the University of Virginia and different entities across Grounds. Here’s a look at a few:

 

The Economist: Darden is No. 3 Business School in the World
 

The Economist released its annual 2014 ranking of the Top 100 international MBA programs and named U.Va.’s Darden School of Business No. 3 in the world.

For the fourth year in a row, the school also came in as the Economist’s No. 1 school for educational experience. It also received the top ratings for “Diversity of Recruiters,” and ranked in the top five for “Opens New Career Opportunities” and “Student Rating of Alumni Effectiveness.”

SumZero: U.Va. Produces the Best Investors
 

SumZero, an online forum for investment professionals, analyzed the stock picks of its members and sorted the results by which school they attended.

It then ranked the schools according to which had produced the best investors, and U.Va. came in at the top spot, according to the Wall Street Journal.

 

Princeton Review: U.Va. Law Provides the Best Quality of Life
 

The Princeton Review ranked the U.Va. School of Law in several places on its most recent compilation, including in the top spot for quality of life.

 


 

Conde Nast Traveler: Charlottesville is No. 6 Among Best College Towns
 

Traveler had Charlottesville listed in its compilation of “best college towns for people who aren’t in college.” Describing Charlottesville, the publication wrote: “Today, many of the old buildings – including the iconic Rotunda, designed by Jefferson – remain, but Charlottesville is a thoroughly modern city.”
