May 19, 2010 — After he commended University of Virginia employees on their many years of service, Leonard W. Sandridge, executive vice president and chief operating officer, was himself honored Wednesday by members of the Virginia General Assembly.

State Sen. Creigh Deeds, D-Bath, and Dels. David Toscano, D-Charlottesville, and Rob Bell, R-Charlottesville, presented Sandridge with a joint resolution honoring him for his many contributions to U.Va. and to the commonwealth at the annual Service Awards ceremony in John Paul Jones Arena.

"When I first thought about running for office, folks told me I had to get to know two people at U.Va.: 'Mr. Outside,' John Casteen, and 'Mr. Inside,' Leonard Sandridge," Deeds said.

Sandridge, a native of Crozet, will step down on Dec. 31 after more than 40 years as a U.Va. administrator.
