University of Virginia Statement on Appointment of William Goodwin to Board of Visitors

Gov. Robert F. McDonnell announced the appointment today of William H. Goodwin Jr., of Richmond, to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors. Goodwin’s appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of R.J. Kirk in October. Goodwin previously served as a member of the Board of Visitors from 1996 to 2004, and as a senior adviser to the board from July 1 until today.

University of Virginia Rector Helen E. Dragas issued the following statement:

“It is a true privilege to have someone of Mr. Goodwin’s stature join the Board of Visitors. From his prior board service and more recently as a special adviser, he understands well the complexities of higher education and health care delivery and has already made significant contributions to our policies. His breadth and depth of experience and wisdom will make a real difference as the University strives for ever higher levels of excellence.”
