UVA Grounds Gets Winter’s First Taste of Real Snow

Students on grounds having a snowball fight

After months of false alarms and cold rains, Ol’ Man Winter finally got around to sending Charlottesville a real snowstorm on Monday. From around lunchtime through Tuesday’s early morning hours, 5.5 inches of light, fluffy snow fell upon the University of Virginia’s Grounds, suspending classes (but not the men’s basketball game) from Monday evening until 11 a.m. Tuesday and sending students into full-play mode.

U.Va. videographers and photographers captured some of the scenes.
