The Virginia Film Society Continues with a Focus on Indies, Sports Movies

February 24, 2010 — The Virginia Film Society, in collaboration with The Paramount Theater, continues its offerings with screenings featuring independent movies in March and sports films in April.

The society is the yearlong extension of the four-day annual Virginia Film Festival, presented by the University of Virginia's College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.

The partnership with The Paramount to offer themes-based films each month began in January.

The upcoming schedule (All showings at the Paramount Theater at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted.)

March (Independent Movie Month)
• March 1: "In The Loop"
• March 8: Black Maria Film & Video Festival [link to: http://www.theparamount.net/calendar_shows_blackmaria.aspx]
• March 22: "Blood on the Flat Track: the Rise of the Rat City Roller Girls"
• March 29: "Ben-Hur"

April (Sports Movie Month)
• March 5: "More Than A Game" – Followed by live broadcast of the NCAA Men's College Basketball championship game.
• March 12: "Heaven Can Wait." Peter Biskind, author of a new biography of Warren Beatty, "Star: How Warren Beatty Seduced America," will speak on Beatty's career and sign copies of his book following the screening.
• March 19: "Raging Bull"
• March 26: "The Natural"

The movies for May and beyond will be announced in the end of April.
