January 19, 2012 — Pablo Campos, internationally recognized author and speaker on university campus planning and design, will speak Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the University of Virginia' s School of Architecture on "Urban & Architectural University Models."
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Campbell Hall, room 158.
Campos is an architect and senior lecturer of architectural composition at the Escuela Politecnica Superior, a division of the Universidad Centro de Estudios Universitarios-San Pablo in Madrid.
He is the author of several articles published in planning and architectural journals, and his book, "El Viaje de la Utopía (The Journey of Utopia)" (Madrid: Ed. Complutense, 2002) won the Premio Vitruvio 2002 international architecture prize and the Premio del Ayuntamiento de Madrid 2002 in the urban history and research category. It was later published in the United States as "The Journey of Utopia: The Story of the First American-Style Campus in Europe" (New York: Novascience Publishers, 2006), and presented at Columbia and New York universities.
Campos' other books include "Campus of International Excellence" (Madrid: Ministerio de Educación, 2010), which won the Premio Ángel Herrera de Investigación in 2010, and "Identity, Innovation and Environment at Spanish Universities: The International Campus of Excellence Projects" (Madrid: Ministerio de Educación, 2010).
In addition to his teaching and research, since 1990 Campos has advised Spain's central government, universities, local authorities and regional governments on the planning and design of university grounds.
Campos has contributed to several award-winning campus design projects, and his design for the new Villamayor campus at the Universidad de Salamanca won the Honor Award of the Designshare/SCN Awards Program, the highest international accolade for educational architecture.
