Swiss Official to Discuss His Country's Role as U.S. Representative in Iran

November 18, 2011 — Switzerland's deputy chief of mission, Guillaume Scheurer, will discuss his country's role as the United States' representative in Iran on Nov. 28 at the University of Virginia. The talk comes just weeks after the International Atomic Energy Agency released a report saying Tehran is inching closer to nuclear weapon capability.

Indonesian Ambassador Speaks Monday at U.Va., Where His Father Was First Indonesian Student

March 10, 2011 — Indonesia's ambassador to the United States comes to the University of Virginia on Monday to discuss how his and other countries can adapt to what he calls "this amazing century."

Dino Djalal, a guest of the Office of the Vice Provost for International Programs, will speak at 5 p.m. in the Nau Hall auditorium in a free appearance, part of the University's Ambassadors' Speakers Forum.

Talk at U.Va. to Focus on National Security Challenges of the 21st Century

The University of Virginia's Office of the Vice Provost for International Programs will hold a talk Monday by Al Pessin, Pentagon correspondent for Voice of America radio news. He will explore "U.S. National Security Challenges of the 21st Century."

Brazilian Minister-Counselor: WikiLeaks Poses No Threat to U.S.-Brazil Relations

December 2, 2010 — Brazil's minister-counselor to the United States told a University of Virginia audience on Wednesday that the recent release of more than 250,000 leaked U.S. embassy cables would have little effect on relations between the two countries.

Ernesto Araujo – who filled in when Brazilian ambassador Mauro Vieira had to travel home for business – told those gathered in the new Nau Hall auditorium that he found nothing surprising in the documents released by WikiLeaks.

University of Virginia Seeks Ways to Realize the 'Global University'

November 11, 2010 — Leaders in higher education are coming together at the University of Virginia Sunday and Monday to consider the future of the global university in the face of political, economic and cultural shifts in the 21st century.

U.Va.'s Office of the Vice Provost for International Programs and the Curry School of Education are hosting 16 noted scholars from multiple disciplines and places of learning.

Iceland's Ambassador to the U.S. Kicks off 2010-11 Ambassadors' Speaker Forum

September 10, 2010 — Iceland's ambassador to the United States, Hjálmar W. Hannesson, comes to the University of Virginia on Monday to discuss "Iceland on the World Scene" as his country deals with its financial crisis.

Hannesson is the first speaker of this year's Ambassadors' Speakers Forum, an annual event presented by the Office of the Vice Provost for International Programs.
