Princeton Review Rates Darden School No. 3 in Entrepreneurship

September 26, 2011 — The University of Virginia's Darden School of Business and the school's Batten Institute offer the No. 3 graduate entrepreneurship program among the 2,000 U.S. schools surveyed by The Princeton Review for Entrepreneur magazine.

"Darden's entrepreneurship program is informed by groundbreaking research and is steeped in a rich, experience-based approach to creating successful businesses," said Philippe Sommer, director of Darden's Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership. "That's a very empowering proposition for students in today's challenging economic climate.

"We're deeply committed to our students and firmly support their passion to pursue entrepreneurship and innovation at any stage in their career and in any type of business environment. This mindset inspires us to continuously innovate and advance our program, and we're honored that these efforts have been recognized by Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine."

"The right education enhances and reinforces curiosity and creative thinking in entrepreneurs," said Amy Cosper, vice president and editor in chief at Entrepreneur. "This ranking provides a unique look at top schools that offer the type of training, encouragement and direction that nurtures entrepreneurial skills. It's an excellent resource for those interested in academics as a pathway to their goals, and it can help tremendously in the discovery process to finding the right program."

The Batten Institute supports and shapes the dialogue on value creation and entrepreneurship in many innovative forms, including the upcoming Jefferson Innovation Summit, a multi-event exchange of ideas about how to best encourage a society of entrepreneurs and innovators, and Darden's "Innovate. Effectuate."  annual entrepreneurship conference, which will demystify the mysteries behind successful entrepreneurs and innovators and provide attendees a framework for building a successful business.

The Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, part of the Batten Institute, supports the Darden Business Incubator and the programs and resources it offers. In addition to approximately $13,000 for expenses, participants receive free office space, access to technological expertise and free legal services thanks to a new arrangement with the U.Va. School of Law and the Woods Rogers law firm.

The eighth annual ranking reveals the United States' Top 25 undergraduate and Top 25 graduate programs for entrepreneurship. Darden's ranking can be seen at Entrepreneur.com's top colleges page and Princeton Review's entrepreneurship page.
