Utility Work Closes Sidewalk at Alderman Residences

The sidewalk between the Fitzhugh and Woody residence houses at the University of Virginia will be closed from Feb. 3 to March 14 to accommodate utility work.

The as-yet-unnamed Building 6, the latest construction in the rejuvenation of the Alderman Road first-year residence area, will have an emergency generator, as do the other new residence halls in that area. Work crews will be excavating to run underground electric ductwork and pouring a concrete pad to support the generator, which will supply emergency electricity and support life safety systems.

Pedestrians will need to walk around the construction site, using Alderman Road and then Tree House Drive to get to Woody and other residence houses.

Building 6, which will house approximately 200 students and Housing and Residence Life administrative offices, is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2015.
