Video: UVA’s New Student Center on the Corner is Abuzz With Activity

From floor plans and lighting to user space and even paint colors, students were involved from the get-go in the creation of the University of Virginia’s new space on the Corner.

The renovated three-story, 15,000-square-foot building, purchased by the University in 2015, debuted in the spring. Light and airy, 1515 was the former location of the Student Bookstore, a business unaffiliated with UVA.

In addition to the physical space, a student steering committee commissioned by the University also determined how 1515 is run and managed. The alcohol-free building is open from 9 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. seven days a week during the academic year.

The basement hosts a free game center, and a performance space and café dominate the main floor. Students can visit UVA’s newest Career Center location on the second floor, where career counselors and peer educators staff the space every weekday from noon to 5 p.m. during the school year, allowing students to drop by for informal conversations as they are studying or heading to and from class.
