The University of Virginia has now extended offers of admission to 9,898 students from all walks of life and all around the world, inviting them to join UVA’s Class of 2025.

The latest decisions went out Thursday, part of the “regular decision” admissions cycle. Some 2,620 students were offered admission in this cycle, joining students previously offered in UVA’s binding early decision application cycle in December and non-binding early action phase in January.

The students admitted to the Class of 2025 represent a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. According the preliminary data from UVA’s Office of Admission, the admitted class includes a record 1,184 first-generation college students, representing 12% of offers made. Fifty percent of total offers were made to students of minority backgrounds (41%), including African American, Asian, American Indian, Hawaiian Pacific Islander and Hispanic students; and to international students (9%).

While the numbers are not final, Dean of Admission Gregory W. Roberts said this year’s class is a remarkable group, reflecting UVA’s commitment to attracting high-achieving students from all walks of life and providing an affordable, world-class educational experience.

We can do this. Keep going, UVA.

“I am grateful for these students’ interest in the University, and deeply respect their resilience in the face of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their families and communities,” Roberts said.

A total of 48,011 students applied for admission to the Class of 2025, with 9,898 offered a place – an offer rate of 21%. Twenty-eight percent of in-state students received offers; compared to 17% of non-Virginians.

Due to the coronavirus, students were not required to submit standardized test scores with their applications during this admissions cycle. Earlier this year, UVA announced plans to extend this “test-optional” approach for another two years.

The enrollment target for this class is 3,788 students. Those who received offers in the early action and regular decision cycles will have until May 1 to accept the offer and enroll at UVA.
