UVA is also taking a second look at the structures near the intersection of Jefferson Park and Brandon Avenues. Its latest plan calls for a massive renovation of New Cabell Hall, as opposed to a demolition and a brand new structure.

An "urgent need" for innovative, ethical leaders is why Frank Batten Sr., retired chairman and CEO of Norfolk-based Landmark Communications Inc., said Thursday that he's giving the University of Virginia the largest single gift in its history: $100 million.
..."Mr. Batten is a great alumni and a great American, and it's an extraordinary gift. He believes deeply that we should train the next generations leaders at UVa and this will allow us to do so," said Gene Block, UVa Provost. The $100 million gift is to fund the creation of the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, the only one of its kind in the state and one of the few in the country. The school will admit around 400 students and 18 full-time faculty in its early stages.
