Laurin Rosales’s reaction will have you on the edge of your seat. Lili Piersall and her family had just boarded a plane when she got the news, and Sarah Beth Robinson was overcome with emotion. Are you?

Jeannine Lalonde, an associate dean of admission, posted preliminary statistics on her popular blog, Notes from Peabody.

She said there were 4,465 early decision applicants for the Class of 2028. Of those, 1,133 were accepted in the binding admissions cycle, the first of three at UVA. In early decision, applicants pledge to attend the University if admitted, in exchange for earlier notification.

Early action decisions will be released by Feb. 15, and regular decisions will circulate by April 1, neither of which is binding. Those admitted in those cycles will have until May 1 to notify the University of their acceptance.

“Early Decision students, you all gave us some great apps!” Lalonde gushed, referring to applications. “I shed a few tears over things you shared, but I got to laugh a lot as well as I learned about you. My favorite essay folder is certainly a little bigger!”
