It’s a day years in the making.

Friday was Match Day, when medical school students across the United States, including those graduating from University of Virginia School of Medicine, learned where they will continue their professional journeys, training as residents.

“This day is everything I’ve wished for the past eight years and I’m so happy to being staying here at the happiest place on Earth,” said Sayo McCowin, a UVA School of Medicine Class of 2024 student. McCowin learned Friday he will stay in Charlottesville, completing his residency in anesthesiology at UVA Health University Medical Center.

“I am over the moon and couldn’t be happier,” said Rebecca Marchant, who is bound for the University of California, San Diego, specializing in radiation oncology. “This day means so much to all of us. We’ve worked really hard for four years and this is truly the culmination of our hard work. All of these amazing classmates of mine are going to be amazing doctors, so I can’t wait to see what happens next.”
