University of Virginia student-athletes are graduating at a higher rate than at any time in the last two decades, according to an NCAA report released Wednesday.
The Graduation Success Rate data for the 2013-14 to 2016-17 freshman cohorts shows Cavalier student-athletes have a graduation rate of 96%, one percentage point higher than last year’s data and the highest rate since the NCAA began reporting the information in 2002.
The NCAA’s national average for this year’s reporting range is 91%.
“These NCAA graduation metrics demonstrate the tremendous commitment to academic excellence exhibited by our student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Carla Williams said. “We have amazing young people across all of our programs, and their commitment to balance the academic rigors and athletic endeavors at one of the nation’s top universities is remarkable.
