A report prepared by a panel of 80 experts for the Miller Center for Public Affairs at the University of Virginia -- chaired by Norman Mineta and Samuel Skinner, two former secretaries of the U.S. Department of Transportation -- estimated that an additional $134 billion to $262 billion must be spent per year through 2035 to rebuild and improve the nation's road, rail and air transportation systems.

The work compared science, technology, engineering or maths (STEM) graduate students who teach with those who only conduct research. Certain fast-paced shows that have multiple scene changes were shown to impact the attention span of young children. The study was published in the journal Pediatrics, and was done by researchers from the University of Virginia.

Central Virginia filmmakers are taking on a fast-paced challenge: make a movie in three days. The Virginia Film Festival is accepting applications for its eighth Adrenaline Film Project. The competition pits about a dozen teams of aspiring filmmakers against the clock. They'll have 72 hours to pitch, write, shoot, edit, and screen their short films, working under the guidance of the festival's Hollywood professionals.

The University of Virginia is offering a new option for students looking to finish up college ahead of schedule. The Three Plus One Program offers students a way to obtain a bachelor's and a master's degree in just four years. A growing number of incoming students already have 15 or more advanced placement credits gained in high school. A new website set up Wednesday offers those incoming students and their parents some extra guidance.
