If you are interested in sharing your appreciation and knowledge of art, now’s the time.

The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia is currently accepting applications from community members through Aug. 22 to join its docent program.

The museum’s volunteer docents give interactive tours to a variety of school groups and community organizations from across Central Virginia. They also assist with the museum’s special programs, such as Eyes on Art and the annual Writer’s Eye competition.

Those who are accepted into the program are required to complete the museum’s 10-week docent training course.

Participants in the course develop observational skills and knowledge of the elements of art through investigation of the museum's collections and current exhibitions. They will also learn public speaking skills and techniques for facilitating tours

At the end of the course, participants must complete a qualifying tour.

The fall docent training course will meet Wednesdays, from 2 to 5 p.m., from Sept. 11 until Nov. 20.

For an application or information regarding docent training, email docenteducation@virginia.edu or call 434-243-2050.
