Three months after winning a national championship, the University of Virginia pickleball club celebrated another achievement over the weekend.

A two-day event called the “University of Virginia Community Tournament” hosted more than 200 competitors – including UVA students, faculty members and area residents – at the Snyder Tennis Center on Grounds, making it the largest pickleball event in club history, according to club president Conor Burns.

The event quadrupled in size from last year, Burns said.

“This event was a great way to engage with the greater Virginia pickleball community and to further our relationships with great players,” said Burns, a third-year student. He noted participants came from as far as Washington, D.C.

“The club was thrilled with the size and success of the event,” he said. “The competition was extremely high and provided great matches for all players.”

The tournament, which began Saturday morning and ended Sunday evening, had several sponsors, including title sponsor Head Pickleball.
