University of Virginia President Jim Ryan completed the Boston Marathon on Monday, putting an exclamation point on the most successful “Run With Jim” marathon campaign to date.

Running for UVA Children’s Hospital, Ryan – wearing a jersey representing the cause – raised more than $51,500 for the hospital. That’s the most he’s ever raised through the race, a philanthropic tradition dating to 2019.

U.S. News & World Report has named UVA Health Children’s the No. 1 children’s hospital in Virginia for three consecutive years. The hospital continues exploring ways to expand services for children and families, including a partnership with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital to open the UVA Health Children's Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Care clinic in Albemarle County later this year.

Ryan has now completed 13 consecutive Boston Marathons, a world-famous 26.2-mile race held annually on Patriots’ Day in Massachusetts.

Alumnus and Presidential Fellow Jaden Evans, alumna Audrey Himes and history professor Brian Owensby counted among the UVA-affiliated runners to join Ryan in this year’s race. Additionally, the hydration station at Mile Marker 25 was staffed by the UVA Club of Boston.

Last year, Ryan ran in memory of the three UVA football players – Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry – whose lives were lost in the Nov. 13, 2022 shooting on Grounds.
