Six former University of Virginia rectors returned to Grounds last week for a dinner in the Rotunda with the current Board of Visitors and its rector, Robert Hardie, along with University administrators.
The former rectors – or chairs of the Board of Visitors, the University’s governing body – who attended the Thursday dinner represent nearly two decades of board leadership. Hardie recounted the University milestones that took place during each of the rectors' tenures, including the hiring of the past two University presidents, Teresa Sullivan and Jim Ryan.
Virginia’s governor appoints board members for four-year terms and they can be reappointed. The board members elect the rector.
