Nurses at UVA Health University Medical Center have retained a coveted recognition – the highest national honor for nursing practice – for providing top-quality and innovative care.
The award from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, called the “Magnet Recognition Program,” is handed out to fewer than 10% of the nation’s hospitals. The recognition is “steadfast proof of hard-earned commitment to excellence in health care, with contented nurses at its heart,” according to the accrediting body.
The designation came after a four-day site visit from a team of appraisers that conducted 115 interview sessions with more than 1,200 participants. The medical center nursing staff also earned this award in 2015 and 2020.
“Our nurses provide outstanding care every day for our patients and their families,” Wendy Horton, chief executive officer of the medical center, said. “Magnet recognition is a reflection of the deep commitment to our patients and our community.”
Dr. Mitchell Rosner, acting executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Virginia, said the medical center’s nurses are more than deserving of the honor.
“In a comprehensive fashion, our nurses demonstrated the high standards they consistently and tirelessly uphold in serving our patients,” he said.
