Wahoos, through UVA’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Athletes in Action programs, participated in Operation Christmas Child and packed 786 shoeboxes with gifts to send to children all over the world for the holidays.
UVA’s varsity teams raised money over the past several weeks to purchase presents and contribute to the project. The Cavalier women’s rowing team led all teams with 133 boxes.
Following Wednesday’s packing party, the boxes were dropped off for shipping at a local processing center to then be delivered globally.
Operation Christmas Child was founded in 1993 through the relief organization Samaritan’s Purse. The organization says “more than 186 million children in more than 160 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox” since its founding.
