Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger on Friday announced the reappointments of four members of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors. The members will begin their four-year terms in July.
The reappointed members:
The Honorable Amanda L. Pillion, of Abingdon, is a member of Abingdon Town Council and an audiologist at Abingdon Hearing Care and Abingdon ENT Associates. Gov. Glenn Youngkin appointed Pillion to the board in 2022. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from UVA.
Mohsin R. Syed, of Arlington, is a senior adviser at Westexec Advisors. Spanberger appointed Syed to the board in 2026 to fulfill the remaining term of a vacant position. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of Arts & Sciences and a juris doctorate from the School of Law.
Elizabeth H. Hayes, of Arlington, is a retired attorney at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP in Washington. Spanberger appointed Hayes to the board in 2026 to fulfill the remaining term of a vacant position. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Emory University and a law degree from the UVA School of Law.
Owen D. Griffin Jr., of Suffolk, is president and chief financial officer of Currie Medical. Spanberger appointed Griffin to the board in 2026 to fulfill the remaining term of a vacant position. He holds a bachelor’s degree from UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce, a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Darden School of Business.
Jeri K. Seidman, Faculty Senate Chair and Paul Goodloe McIntire Associate Professor of Commerce at the McIntire School of Commerce, was appointed by the Board of Visitors to serve as faculty representative for the 2026-27 academic year. Seidman will begin a one-year term in the nonvoting role in July. Seidman replaces James H. Lambert, the Janet Scott Hamilton and John Downman Hamilton Professor of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, whose term ends June 30.
The Board of Visitors also selected rising fourth-year UVA student Jackson B. Sleadd as its student representative for the 2026-27 academic year. Sleadd’s one-year term in the nonvoting role began June 1, succeeding last year’s student representative, Gregory Perryman.
“I extend my congratulations and thanks to the reappointed members of the Board of Visitors, newly appointed faculty representative Jeri Seidman, and student representative Jackson Sleadd, and look forward to working with them to guide and advance the strategic vision of the University,” University President Scott Beardsley said. “Many thanks to outgoing faculty representative James Lambert and student representative Gregory Perryman for their thorough and dedicated work to serve the board on behalf of UVA’s teaching and learning communities.”
