The University of Virginia Chapel’s bells will play “Amazing Grace” and then toll three times Wednesday afternoon to mark the second anniversary of the fatal shootings of three UVA football players.
Student-athletes Devin Chandler, D’Sean Perry and Lavel Davis Jr. died during an on-Grounds shooting Nov. 13, 2022, as they and a busload of classmates returned to the University from a field trip. Two other students were wounded, but survived. A former student, accused in the killings, is facing trial next year.
The University community will be asked to step outside Wednesday at 1:55 p.m. to observe a moment of silence in honor of the student-athletes, followed by the first verse of “Amazing Grace” and the tolling of the bells.
Also on Wednesday, students will meet on the South Lawn from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. to pick up orange ribbons and write reflections. At 7 p.m., students plan to gather at the steps of Old Cabell Hall to light candles in remembrance.
