UVA outlines next steps for selecting interim president

University of Virginia leaders have announced the next steps in the process to select an interim president to follow former UVA President Jim Ryan, whose resignation took effect Friday.

The selection process will include listening sessions with a wide swath of University constituents, including UVA and UVA Health faculty and staff, Academic Division leaders and students. The purpose of the listening sessions is to hear from stakeholders about the qualities they regard as important in an interim president. Members of the University community can nominate a candidate through a new website. The nomination form on the website will remain open until July 25 at 5 p.m.

“As we begin the process of identifying an interim president to lead the University, the Board of Visitors is committed to working closely with members of our community to hear their perspectives and ensure stability and continuity going forward,” Rachel Sheridan, the board’s rector, said. “Shared governance is a core value of this institution and we will uphold it as we pursue the selection of an interim president, as well as our 10th university president after that.”

The University’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, Jennifer “J.J.” Wagner Davis, is serving as acting president while the process for selecting an interim president takes place. UVA will seek input from the full University community, including alumni, when conducting a national search for UVA’s 10th president.
