News in brief: UVA ranked No. 1 public school for graduates’ long-term career success

LinkedIn has ranked the University of Virginia the No. 1 public school for positioning graduates for long-term career success.

In its first-ever assessment, the business networking tool identified 50 schools, public and private. It used internal data based on five categories: job placement, internships and recruiter demand, career success, network strength and knowledge breadth, which tracks a person’s major and the skills they developed while completing their studies.

LinkedIn said UVA graduates thrive in technology, business consulting and services and financial services. Their top locations for employment are in Washington, New York City and Charlottesville.

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of California-Berkeley finished second and third in the public-school category. UVA placed No. 12 overall, after Dartmouth College, Stanford University and Northwestern University.

In June, the Princeton Review ranked UVA the No. 2 best value public university in the nation. Earlier this month, it named UVA Student Health and Wellness No. 1 for the third year running.
