For six decades, Barbara Moore has been the quiet constant behind hundreds of joyful nuptials at the University of Virginia Chapel. With hundreds of wedding performances under her belt, she holds a distinction no one else can claim – and she has the spiral-bound notebooks to prove it.
Moore, a Charlottesville native and longtime music instructor in UVA’s Department of Music, played her first chapel wedding at the age of 16. Today, she continues to teach and perform, sharing the nuances of the organ with a new generation of students.
From organ shoes to evolving wedding playlists, Moore has seen it all. Read her fascinating story and hear one of her signature performances in Saturday’s UVA Today Weekend.
