Accolades: Carolyn Ramwell

January 16, 2008 — University of Virginia Nursing School professor Carolyn Ramwell, a pediatric nurse practitioner and an active member of international education initiatives, recently returned from Sri Lanka with the nonprofit organization, Physicians for Peace, where she helped in rebuilding the pediatric health care infrastructure decimated by the 2004 tsunami.

Interviewed by Voice of America earlier this month, Ramwell discussed ongoing health care needs in the damaged regions and how the volunteers helped get a children's hospital construction project under way, as well as developed training in basic life support, nursing education, advanced pediatrics and advanced critical care. She taught health care professionals who will carry on the training.

Voice of America's radio and TV shows are broadcast all over the world and on the Internet.
