The University of Virginia women’s soccer team is back on top.
After a 7-0-1 start to the season – including two wins over Top 10 opponents – the Cavaliers are ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll for the first time in four years.
UVA began the season with a No. 15 ranking before making its steady climb with a series of impressive performances. During a three-game stretch from Aug. 31 to Sept. 11, the Wahoos tied No. 16 Georgetown University and then knocked off No. 9 Penn State and No. 2 Duke University.
They wrapped last week with a resounding 3-0 blanking of Virginia Commonwealth University on Sunday at Klöckner Stadium.
“It was a good week for us,” said UVA coach Steve Swanson, who’s approaching 400 wins during his 26 seasons in Charlottesville.
