The Bigger Picture: Footprints in the Snow

An aerial view of the University of Virginia’s Memorial to Enslaved Laborers follows the footsteps of one individual who passed through on Sunday morning after snow had fallen in Charlottesville.

In a coat of snow, the monument takes on a new poignancy and one cannot help but to reflect on the hardships enslaved laborers dealt with during a cold winter without sufficient housing, food or warm clothing.
