The visitors’ locker room inside the University of North Carolina’s football stadium was an unquestioned place of joy for the University of Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday evening following their thrilling upset over the No. 10-ranked and previously unbeaten Tar Heels.

UVA’s 31-27 victory in Chapel Hill marked the Wahoos’ first road win over a top-10 opponent in program history.

A fitting celebration was on following the accomplishment, which gave UVA its second-straight victory this season. Afterward, head coach Tony Elliott put the win in perspective for a program 11 months removed from tragically losing three of its players to a shooting on Grounds.

“One thing you can’t question about this team is their resilience and their willingness to fight,” he said. “That’s just a testament to this group of individuals. I think it’s a testament to where our football program is. Since Nov. 13 of last year, we’ve had to fight every single day for everything.”

On Monday, Virginia was named the “Cheez-It National Team of the Week,” as selected by the All-America Committee of the Football Writers Association of America.

The Hoos are back on the road Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against the University of Miami. Their next home game is Nov. 4 against Georgia Tech, with kickoff at 2 p.m.
