Capitol Hill Staffers to Offer Students Career Advice

February 13, 2009 — With the job market becoming increasingly more competitive, students are constantly seeking advice on how to present themselves as the perfect candidate. On Tuesday, the University of Virginia's Center for Politics and U.Va. Career Services will present a panel discussion on the ins and outs of securing a position on Capitol Hill and other political careers.

"Hoos on the Hill" will provide career advice to students along with a question-and-answer period. This free event will take place at the Bryant Hall/Scott Stadium recruiting room from 5 to 6:30 p.m. No advance registration is required and free parking is available outside of Bryant Hall after 4:30 p.m.

The expert panel of U.Va. alumni will include Matt Phillips of the Homeland Security Institute; Kristin Whitman, manager of federal government relations at Shell; Cheryl Jaeger, senior policy advisor to Rep. Eric Cantor (VA-7th); Mike Sewell, consultant for Progress Energy; and Andrew Horowitz, legislative director for Rep. Jerry McNerney (CA-11).
