Construction Work to Close One U.Va. Garage Entrance

June 18, 2010 — The Emmet Street entrance to the University of Virginia's Central Grounds Parking Garage will be closed from Monday through next Friday for construction. The Newcomb Road entrance will remain open.

The entrance is being closed to accommodate construction equipment needed for the expansion of the University Bookstore over the top deck of the garage.

Installation of 55 support pilings is expected to take about four weeks, weather permitting. During the installation, some parking spaces on the ground floor of the garage will be blocked.

Pedestrians will have access to the main stairs and elevators at the lower level during the work. The sidewalk along Emmet Street also will remain open.
