Webster Santos, professor of chemistry and the Cliff and Agnes Lilly Faculty Fellow in the College of Science at Virginia Tech, has received a $2.8 million award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to discover drugs to inhibit a small molecule transporter. Blocking this transporter modulates the immune system and has implications both in treating autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, and in immune-oncology.
