As the semester winds down, University of Virginia faculty members have the opportunity to review innovations in teaching, from MOOCs to study abroad, at the Teaching Resource Center’s Innovation in Pedagogy Summit, scheduled for May 3, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in the Newcomb Hall Ballroom.

Co-sponsored by the College of Arts & Sciences and the Darden School of Business, the summit will include complimentary lunch for those who pre-register by April 30.

The conference “brings together people who are doing exciting new teaching to engage students deeply in learning,” Marva Barnett, director of the Teaching Resource Center, said. Topics range from Robert Swap’s South Africa course, to Elizabeth Powell’s work with contemplative pedagogy at Darden, to Alison Levine’s engaging students to learn grammar by writing creatively, to Philip Zelikow’s teaching tens of thousands around the world alongside his U.Va. undergraduates who are exploring history in new ways.

Panel presentations, followed by discussions, will feature U.Va. faculty members talking about their experiences with a variety of teaching methods and environments.
