June 25, 2012 — The University of Virginia Bookstore will hold a "Food Mob" on Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. to solicit food donations for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.

Donations will benefit children, elderly, people with disabilities, recently unemployed and other "food insecure" people whose ranks often grow during the summertime.

The event will also benefit donors who bring non-perishable food items to the donation barrel outside the U.Va. Bookstore entrance on Friday: they will receive a 20 percent discount coupon valid until July 31 that applies to any regularly priced U.Va.-imprinted item for sale in the bookstore. In addition, donors will receive free parking for 30 minutes in the Central Grounds Parking Garage.

The bookstore's Food Mob is being held in conjunction with the "Governor's Bowl" Food and Fund Drive under way through July 4.
