The University of Virginia’s Valedictory Exercises, scheduled for Friday afternoon, will move inside to the John Paul Jones Arena due to potential inclement weather. The National Weather Service on Thursday issued a flood watch for Central Virginia, forecasting that 3 to 5 inches of rain would fall through Friday night.

Valediction will begin at 3 p.m. as scheduled. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. For information on the event and parking, visit the Final Exercises site.

The ceremony will proceed as it would have on the Lawn, including the presentation of various awards, the bestowing of the 2018 class gift and a keynote address from UVA alumnus and reigning Super Bowl champion Chris Long.

Graduates and their families should note that the clear bag policy, in place for Saturday and Sunday’s Final Exercises, also applies to events in John Paul Jones Arena.
