September 12, 2008 — A memorial service honoring writer and University of Virginia faculty member George Garrett will be held Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. at the University Chapel.

Garrett, who was 78, died May 25 in Charlottesville. Former director of the Creative Writing Program in the U.Va. English Department, he retired in 2000 as the Henry Hoyns Professor Emeritus of Creative Writing.
