With more than 16,000 undergraduates, the University of Virginia was abuzz Tuesday for the first day of classes. Students, old and new, began hitting the walkways, some before 8 a.m., for the start of the academic year.

University Communications’ photographers and social media team members staked out the Lawn with a photo booth to capture some of the smiles. So, parents, here are those back-to-school pictures you couldn’t take yourselves this year. Enjoy!
