‘Hoo? What? Where?’ Celebrate Poe’s Birthday With This Game

Sunday is Edgar Allen Poe’s birthday. The famously dark poet would have been 216. Alas, Poe died Oct. 7, 1849, of unknown causes, at the age of 40.

Poe attended the University of Virginia for a year, enrolling Feb. 14, 1826, according to the University’s Raven Society. Founded in 1904, it is UVA’s oldest honorary society, named for Poe’s famous poem about a ghostly, ebony bird, “The Raven.”

Ahead of the poet’s birthday, UVA Today brings you this Poe edition of “Hoo? What? Where?” – set in Room 13 West Range, which is believed to be where he resided during his single term at the University.

Can you spy the quill Poe might have used to write “The Fall of the House of Usher” or “The Tell-Tale Heart”? Scan Room 13 for more items, hiding in plain sight, and share your score with friends and family in homage to one of UVA’s most famous students.
